Sponsorship for yellow bellied toad
Kärcher has demonstrated its commitment to conserving biodiversity in its region by sponsoring the protection of the yellow bellied toad. Partners in the project are the Stuttgart Regional Council and the German Nature Conservation Society (NABU).
The rare yellow bellied toad has settled in the upper Zipfel valley stream near Winnenden, not far from Kärcher’s head office. Among other activities, the local branch of the NABU takes care of the wet meadow that serves as the spawning ground for the tiny amphibians, which are only five centimetres long and weigh a mere ten grams. As the small waterways have to be sunny and free from over-abundant growth to ensure good spawn development, a removal cutting project financed by Kärcher was carried out as a first step. Further measures planned for autumn 2009 are to excavate new pools and clear silted up areas so that they can be used again by the toads.
