Depending on the degree of soiling, available time, and carpet material, spray extraction machines can be utilized in three different ways:
During one-step spray extraction, the machine injects a mixture of water and detergent into the floor covering under pressure. Simultaneously, the suction nozzle vacuums up the dissolved dirt and dirty water in a single pass. This efficient method is ideal for maintenance cleaning, light-to-moderate deep cleaning, and standard upholstery care.
In the two-step method, the cleaning solution is first applied to the carpet in sections using the extractor or a pressurized sprayer. After allowing the solution proper dwell time to break down heavy soil, the area is thoroughly rinsed and vacuumed using the extractor and clean water. This method is highly effective for deep cleaning heavily soiled carpets or upholstery.
For severely loosened or embedded dirt, the carpet is first wet-shampooed using a detergent and a single-disc floor machine. The treated area is then thoroughly rinsed with clean water using the spray extraction method to remove all remaining residue. Note: This aggressive cleaning method is not suitable for upholstery.
Kärcher extractors are suitable for any textile flooring or upholstery featuring colorfast, moisture-resistant, and solvent-resistant fibers, backings, and adhesives. Before beginning a project, always perform a patch test in an inconspicuous area—such as under a cabinet or on the underside of a chair—to check for fabric shrinkage, color bleeding, or backing distortion. Allow this test area to dry completely before evaluating the results. Additionally, please note that absorbent or foam-backed materials retain more moisture and will require extended drying times.
