Gentle cleaning

Kärcher cleaned the "Zeichen der Erinnerung" (Symbol of Remembrance) memorial at Stuttgart's "Nordbahnhof" (north railway station) in a restorative way. In doing so, Kärcher wanted to make a contribution to maintaining and preserving the place of remembrance.

As part of the cleaning project, biogenic growth was removed from the 230-foot-long memorial through gentle steam cleaning and with extremely low surface pressure. Within the context of restoration, the Kärcher cleaning experts were using two hot water pressure washers of the type HDS 17/20 De Tr and HDS 13/20-4 S to remove the accumulated dirt and grime. The base areas were cleaned with hot water and reduced pressure; the steam mode of the HDS 13/20 was used for the vertically-exposed concrete surfaces.

"Zeichen der Erinnerung" (Symbol of Remembrance) Memorial

Between the winter of 1941 and the spring of 1945, nearly 3,000 Jews, Sinti and Romani people were deported to concentration camps in Auschwitz and Theresienstadt, among others, from what is today the location of the memorial. The "Zeichen der Erinnerung" (Symbol of Remembrance) was designed in 2006, based on the plans of the married couple Anne-Christin and Ole Saß, and serves both as a memorial and a monument. Since then, it has been a reminder of the history of this site, which, following the station's closure, all but vanished from public awareness.
